Give It Plenty of Light
Poinsettias love bright light and can handle some sun, but greenhouse-grown holiday plants do best in indirect light. Place yours almost anywhere—just avoid very dark corners, where it may stretch and look leggy.
Ideal Temperature
Keep your poinsettia in a room that stays above 55°F. The ideal range is 65–70°F. Avoid hot spots or drafts. Outdoors is fine only in mild climates with steady temperatures.
Water with Care
Keep the soil lightly moist, not soggy. Water with about a cup every two to three days, using the pot’s weight as a guide—a light pot means it’s time to water. Empty excess water from the saucer. Don’t let it dry out completely, or the plant may drop its leaves and won’t recover for the season.
Pet Safety
Poinsettias aren’t highly toxic. Their sap can irritate skin or mouths, and pets may get mild stomach upset if they chew the leaves. Keep out of reach, and call your vet if your pet takes a bite.
